An ‘Overstory’ Inventory

One year ago, I published my first reflection on ‘The Overstory’ by Richard Powers. I stated my intention to write a series of short-form stories to celebrate and savor the book, one passage at a time.

My original plan was to make it a year-long project, publishing one story per week. I ultimately fell off that timeline. After one year, this is my thirty-seventh installment. Not bad.

I’ve loved having the chance to introduce this book to people who may not have heard of it — or who may have been skeptical that a novel about trees could be so deeply moving and engaging.

I have quoted transcendent passages, provided some context, and introduced each of the characters.

There is much more to share, so I’ve decided to still go for a total of fifty-two installments, leaving me fifteen more.
