How to approach my obsession with Anaïs Nin?

I was introduced to her at 17 by a much older boyfriend who took me to see Henry & June. The film was based on portions of her voluminous diaries, published after she died in 1977. It was also the first film to have an NC17 rating.

But actually, I knew of her before then. When I was a small child, there was a perfume that bore her name, and the romantic commercials made me declare it my favorite before I ever smelled it.

Somehow, I feel my very being is cosmically entwined with hers. I think a lot of women feel that way, though.

Her diaries, her affairs, her friendships with all the great artists of the 20th century…above all, her exquisite passion makes her one of my grandest Taliswomen.
