When I first decided to major in English, I thought it would be easy because I love writing.

But passion alone isn’t always enough.

Writing is a core aspect of my studies. However, finding motivation to write outside of class is challenging. Some days writer’s block seems insurmountable and inspiration feels impossible to find. With the pressure of deadlines and grades, the joy of writing quickly dissipates.

But, there are moments of clarity and creativity that make writing exciting again.

In those moments, I remember why I chose this major in the first place. It’s crucial to find a balance. I don’t want the pressure of coursework to stifle my creativity.

Like every skill, writing requires patience and perseverance. Nothing will be perfect the first time. So, find what works for your schedule, and don’t feel pressured. Explore your interests through assignments. You will eventually find the motivation to succeed.
