It’s not sufficient, really, to say Beatrice Wood was a potter, nor that she was influential on the art of Marcel Duchamp. It’s not enough to say her friendship with Krishnamurti was seminal in the placement of his Ojai, California Center near her compound.

And it’s only a footnote to say that the “Old Lady” Rose character in Titanic was based on her.

That’s all just sort of dancing around the grand woman she was.

I learned about Beato, as she was called by those who loved her, when she was 100. She inspired me to, among other things, take up ceramics. And then she lived 5 more years.

For sheer quality of artistic living and joy, Beatrice Wood is one of my Taliswomen.
