Book Review: Later

A novel by Stephen King.

I devoured this book over 2 days due to its casual style and the fact that its main character and narrator, teen Jamie Conklin, was extremely relatable.

It took me back to the excitement of my Stranger Things days, wondering what direction this kid would head in with his unique talent, whilst his mother struggled to keep them afloat.

The 2021 novel is set in modern times and has the elements of horror expected from an authentic ‘King.’

Its central theme is innocence lost through aging and dark secrets.

Jamie gets pulled into helping the NYPD prevent a tragedy and in the process is dragged into a partnership he’d rather not entertain.

Although supernatural elements pervade Later, the story is grounded by Jamie’s relationship with his mother and other strong community connections.

I rate it 4/5… don’t save it for later.
