Cutting a pomegranate can look like a murder scene
Fall in Northern California means odd-ball fruit.
One is the pomegranate.
A common, plentiful fruit-bearing tree in many neighborhoods.
Getting to the arils (the ruby red seed) takes work. It can be messy, and your kitchen sink and counter can look like a bloody murder scene.
Here’s my trick. A large metal bowl filled with water.
Put the fruit in the water-filled bowl and cut the pomegranate in half under the water.
The fruit will ooze red juice.
Cut each half and slowly push out the arils under the water with your fingers.
Grab a colander or strainer and pour the loose arils into it, as the water drains into the sink. Dump them in a clean bowl and enjoy.
Every Thanksgiving I add them to my stuffing casserole creating a California twist.
