The next time you feel you’re about to give in to an urge, stop and ask yourself how you’ll feel ten minutes, ten hours, ten days from now. The 10–10–10 Rule may not seem all that powerful, but it’s effective because it forces you to think about your future self and see how your actions will affect you in the future — for better or worse (Peter Hollins).

You might’ve given in to an unproductive habit today. Maybe you skipped the gym because you were too tired. Maybe you ate out because you didn’t meal prep. Maybe you cursed someone out instead of responding with patience.

Before giving in to your next impulse, pause and follow the 10–10–10 rule.
