Does It Really Matter If We’re Living In A Simulation?
--
A mini thought experiment regarding whether reality matters.
Currently there’s no way to tell if we are, so to believe in this eventuality would require the following three axioms,
- You’d have to have faith as there’s no proof we are actually in a simulation.
- There would probably be an afterlife (i.e. a real world outside ) if you manage to exit the simulation.
- A system operator (via sudo or ‘god mode’) would have god like powers over the simulation.
All in all it does sound eerily like the definition of a religion.
Either that’s what the operator wants us to think, so science refutes it and stops us from investigating it properly or it really is just another type of religion in our (non-simulated) world and should be dismissed.
A variant of Pascal’s wager?
