Elections
They do have consequences
The results of the recent presidential election thrilled some and devastated others. Those who were thrilled hope that their happy days will last forever. Those who were devastated despair of ever seeing happy days again. In The Way of All the Earth, John S. Dunne reminds both the thrilled and the devastated that the wheel of fortune turns:
“A man who knows that the wheel turns can be a kind of prophet. When everyone else hopes, he despairs; when everyone else despairs, he hopes.”
In other words, Dunne consoles the devastated, cautions the thrilled, and offers wisdom to all: the wheel continues to turn — as it turned in 2020.
