Fun facts about Germany #1: On your birthday, you have to treat everybody else.

Please don’t expect to be treated when it is your birthday in Germany.

When my birthday falls on a workday, I have to provide my own cake and coffee for the whole department. I will be considered a cheap-ass if I don’t at least bring some cookies from the grocery store and invite my colleagues to get some treats on behalf of my Geburtstag.
