Hibiscuses come in a wide variety of colors and bloom year-round. Other flowers you can see any time of year in Hawaii include plumerias, birds of paradise, anthuriums, heliconias, and bougainvilleas.

Flowers play an important role in Hawaiian culture. They are strung together to make leis, which Hawaiians use to celebrate special occasions like birthdays, weddings, and graduations.

Women also wear flowers in their hair. A plumeria behind a woman’s left ear indicates she is in a relationship. If it’s behind her right ear, she is open to meeting a new partner.
