It’s Not Who You Know, It’s Who Knows You

And what they think of you

It’s often said life is about who you know, not what you know. But that’s wrong. It doesn’t matter who you know, unless they know you too, and think highly of you

Nepotism isn’t dead and buried. There are still industries where positions are allocated on the basis of connections alone. But they’re less common than ever.

In a results-focused world, you can’t recommend someone who’s not going to get results, even if they are your friend’s daughter or your sister-in-law’s cousin. It will just reflect badly on you.

So make sure the people who matter in your circle know you, like you, trust you, and are aware of what you can do. People are opportunities. Don’t waste them

Who you know is irrelevant. What matters is who knows you and what they think of you.
