Three decades ago, I was a staff writer for UT’s newspaper, The Daily Texan. My beat was art & books, so of course a book about a new Judy Chicago project would land in my mailbox.

It was the first time I’d heard of her, and the book made reference to an earlier project of hers, 1979’s The Dinner Party — baby feminist that I was, I was immediately obsessed with the idea.

A dinner party with place settings for 39 great women from Western civilization. The table around which they’d gather is a huge triangle, 48 feet on each side. I pored over the guest list and imagined my own.

The Dinner Party was one of the inspirations for my Taliswomen project, so naturally, Judy Chicago is one of my Taliswomen.
