There is a tendency for others to assume everyone wants to or should pursue love, romance, dating, or marriage. If you don’t though, sometimes some of the following things are said:

  • “Why don’t you have a partner yet?”
  • “You will find the right person eventually.”
  • “What about having children or creating a family?”
  • “It’s not possible to not love anyone.”
  • “There is something wrong with you.”

Personally, I don’t think these expectations or assumptions should exist.

While people can pursue romance, for some, a focus on friendships, interests, and goals in life is more important to them. Love and romance is not some innate need like food or water is.

Everyone’s life is different, and there shouldn’t be one standard for life anyway, as there are multiple paths on the road of life.

Live your life the way you want to, but don’t expect others to follow by your example.
