Matthew Wong at the Van Gogh Museum
I wasn’t ready for this
I’ve visited the Van Gogh Museum before and written extensively about it. Although I wrote about Van Gogh’s artwork, the show’s star at that time was the Gustav Klimt temporary exhibit.
I intended to spend most of my time visiting Van Gogh’s work this time. Then, I met Matthew Wong in another temporary show.
I entered his exhibit near the entrance first and didn’t leave for over an hour. The exhibit included works by Van Gogh, showing how Wong was inspired by the Dutch Master, who died over 150 years before Wong’s suicide in 2019 at age 35. The artwork was powerful and vibrant, yet a theme of isolation ran throughout the exhibit. I can’t include the photos I took because of copyright issues, but I encourage you to watch the exhibit video linked above.
