I completely changed careers at age 40.

In 2018 I left 10 years of full-time vocational ministry behind and moved to the business world, where I eventually landed in quality and continuous improvement.

I had zero “formal” credentials in that technical field when I started. How did I get the job? Thankfully, people gave me a chance.

My advice is to stay agile, be adaptable, cultivate curiosity, and never stop learning.

There’s no question that changing careers at mid-life is extremely hard.

You’ll feel unqualified.

You’ll feel inadequate.

You’ll be consumed with self-doubt.

You’ll feel peers that took a more direct and traditional route are far beyond you.

But if you persevere, it can also be incredibly rewarding.

Today, I’m a successful Quality Manager at a Tier 1 automotive supply manufacturer. I never imagined this is what I’d be doing.

But I love it.
