(One Day Soon I’ll Be) Cooking in Hyrule

A beautiful story about Zelda: Breath of the Wild

This writer wrote one of the most endearing stories about the power of video games, and now it’s gone. Here’s what I remember about the beautifully written story. Image source: Nintendo Media

It was one of the most beautiful, compelling, and endearing video game stories written on Medium, and you’ll never get to read it.

The writer deleted his account— Coty, or Cody, was his name. I can’t quite remember — and his beautiful story along with it.

The story was called Cooking in Hyrule and was about how the Nintendo Switch game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ignited a love of games for a 96-year-old woman.

I believe that woman was the writer’s spouse’s grandmother. Their first time meeting didn’t go so well. The damage was done, and all hope was lost until Grams saw her grandson-in-law pick up the peculiar gaming device to play the game.

Things changed from that moment.

Grams was hooked, and it wasn’t long before she had her own Switch and was cooking in Hyrule.

I hope that writer returns.
