Rob Parissi’s One Hit Wonder

Everyone has a favorite tune from their youth. My favorite is “Play That Funky Music” by the band Wild Cherry.

Wild Cherry, formed in 1970 by Rob Parissi, struck gold and then platinum, with this song, which Rob wrote in 1976.

Wild Cherry and its band members went their separate ways by 1979. “Play That Funky Music” remains a favorite song for many from the Boomer generation, even though the late 1970s marked the popularity of the disco era and Saturday Night Fever.

Rob Parissi has enjoyed a lifelong music career, and to this day, he records adult contemporary music and smooth jazz.
