He chews a fingernail down the throat. The fork stirs ragu and isolates a piece. Sweet savored smoke rises into his nostrils. Intense.

‘What did you put in the lasagna?’

She smiles. She smiles eloquently, removing slowly her apron, approaching him.

Thick red sauce drips from the metal tines of the fork. He swallows another bite, chews. Flavourful meat.

He bites a hard piece — bones?

‘I wanted to prepare something special for you.’

She lightly touches his back with her hand, still, behind him.

He stirs the fork into the sauce. She touches his shoulders.

‘Fresh meat. Just butchered.’

The fork turns around the white piece isolated at the edge of the plate.

‘Do you like it?’

Her hands slide down his chest. He grabs them.

‘Her meat is delicious even when cooked,’ he swallows another bite, ‘but next time we need to be more careful with her bones.’
