The first time I remember hearing Stevie’s voice was when I was about 7. The song was “Sara” and I asked my mom to buy me the vinyl 45rpm single so that I could play it incessantly on my little turntable in a case. She sounded so different than any other woman I’d heard sing.

I wanted someone to think of me the way she sang of Sara.

Years later, I saw her picture & my jaw dropped, at least metaphorically. She looked exactly the way I wanted to look. Her very existence gave me chills.

Over the decades, I learned more. She’s a witch, people whispered. Her duets broke my young romantic heart…yes, leather and lace, Stevie. Exactly.

Her mystique hangs over us all, enchanting, out of reach. My taliswoman of magic and song, the legendary Stevie Nicks.
