Sticks in a Bundle Are Unbreakable
This African proverb is germane to issues faced by societal organizations. Working cooperatively is a necessary prerequisite for optimum success, whether family, neighborhood, geographical community, state, or our nation. Too bad we frequently forget and get stuck on me rather than we.
The challenges that we face today are numerous. Those on the extreme “right” argue for legislation that supports their avarice and desire for ultimate power. Simultaneously, those on the extreme “left” contend that they have the right to do whatever can be rationalized as legitimate. These unbounded extremes threaten to destroy our nation.
A path is needed that balances mutual responsibility and respect bounded by Divine law. In scripture, we find, “You are the best community that has been raised from mankind. You enjoin right conduct and forbid indecency, and you believe in The Almighty;” (Qur’an 3:110).
