Sunday Sermon
Courtesy of the San Francisco Tehama Street ICE check-in
The word went out early on the morning of No Kings Day: ICE was summoning immigrants, via a 7 AM alert, to check in or face an “infraction.”
That brought out numbers of undocumented San Franciscans, and more than a few friends and neighbors who wanted to support them. ICE is not beloved in San Francisco.
The designated check-in spot (much of this is turned over to private contractors) was on a short street in a somewhat sketchy part of town. Weekend check-ins are unusual, raising fears of a mass deportation scheme; so many supporters skipped Sabbath or Sunday School to stand with their undocumented neighbors.
But they brought the lesson with them.
