The Birthplace of Pesto
Are you a pesto lover?
Made primarily of garlic, pine nuts, and basil, many find pesto to be mouth-wateringly delicious.
If you eat pesto with pasta, bread, or pizza, your taste buds may sing loudly and theatrically like another of Italian-born fame, Andrea Bocelli.
Where can you find the best pesto in the world? In its birthplace of Genoa, Italy.
Genoa sits on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, located in Liguria, a region of northwestern Italy.
When I was in Genoa, a Genoese local recommended a bakery called Focacceria Buon Appetito in the small town of Nervi, bordering Genoa to the east.
It’s considered one of the best bakeries for pesto focaccia (the Ligurian region is also the birthplace of focaccia!).
I went to Focacceria Buon Appetito, and pesto focaccia made my heart (and taste buds) sing.
