Story is, that Mrs. O’Leary cow kick over a lantern in her barn. Irish immigrant “Catherine O’Leary” was wrongly accused of starting the fire. Mrs. O’Leary denied this charge. Anti-Irish was strong at this time. Some newspapers even reported she was in bed at nine, because she was passed out drunk! She has become an American legend!
