The Difference Between Pity And True Compassion

Is quite a difference.

There’s a Chinese saying that translates roughly to ‘pity is disrespect’.

A famous British writer, Christopher Hitchens said “distrust compassion, choose dignity instead”.

What these both mean is that pity and some byproducts of compassion denote a hierarchy.
