The DIY Dilemma
When you've got your mind on your time and money, time and money on your mind
Do you cut your own lawn? Do you wash your own car? Do you do your home improvements?
At what point do you decide to use your money as opposed to your time? Is outsourcing for you a thing or a luxury?
There can be many ways to answer, considering skill level, priorities, self-esteem, satisfaction and finances.
A long time ago, my father allowed my brothers and me to repair the front garden wall.
Needless to say, we had no idea what we were doing, and it was a disaster.
We had to get a professional builder to start again. He did so in a fraction of the time and with a much better end aesthetic.
It taught us several lessons: initial attempts are still learning experiences, and also, some tasks are more complex than they appear — when you are out of depth, know when to ask for help.
