Understanding Perspectives: The Key To Effective Communication
A math teacher asked a student: “If I give you 2 apples twice, how many apples will you have in total?” The student replied with 5.
The teacher again asked: “If I give you 2 mangoes twice, how many mangoes will you have?” This time, the student correctly answered 4.
The curious teacher then asked the student how the number of mangoes are 4 but not the apples. The student politely explained, “Ma’am, I already have 1 apple in my bag, so in total I will be having 5 apples, but the mangoes will be 4”.
If we deeply observe, both the teacher and student are correct in their perspectives.
In real-life also we emphasise more in imposing our thoughts rather than understanding other’s viewpoint.
Listening is the best way of communication to maintain ever-lasting relationships and it builds our character as well.
