Most parents will scoop up their bundles of joy when the little one starts to wail and do everything they can to stop or prevent them from crying. However, parents in Japan beg to differ.

They have a centuries-old tradition. If a sumo wrestler can make their baby cry, their baby will live a healthy life. So there is a special ceremony where they hand their infants over to sumo wrestlers, who bounce them up and down. They may even roar in their faces to trigger those tears. Visualize that. I’ll wait!

Then, when the baby bawls its heart out, they rejoice. True story.
