“Why be defined by your tragedy instead of your blessings?”
Anthony Abetemarco demanded of Erin Regan, during an episode of Blue Blood. This was a daring reframe of the three tragic deaths in Erin’s family.
These words jolted me like a wet finger exposed to electricity. At the time, a cold wave of deep disappointment swamped my spirits. Folks, I respected and even admired deeply saddened me.
Distress and disillusionment intrude in everyday life. They threaten to rob me of the joy good friendships bring. However, I will not allow them to redefine my life.
I’m thankful for all the loving experiences that shape me. In the afterglow of Thanksgiving, let us reflect on Anthony’s question. Then, let our choices refine us while our blessings define us.
