Why I Shall Never Take a Night’s Sleep for Granted Again
How my sleeping time has become more like a scene from Fight Club
‘Oi. Numb nuts. Wake up!’
I expected Brad Pitt to be standing over me given it felt like he had landed one on me below my belt. He wasn’t. Verbalising the pain didn’t ease the discomfort in my stomach. Bleary-eyed, I winced. It was 3 in the morning.
The intense pain emanating from my groin demanded a hobble to the bathroom. As I perched on the loo, I couldn’t decide whether I was trying to push a fire hydrant through a straw or give the cold tap in the kitchen competition for being an irritating drip.
Either way, the relief at finishing was soothing.
A week ago, I was sleeping all night. Now, with COVID-19, and the onset of something that feels more troubling, my sleep has become interrupted with surges of pain every few hours.
Oh, how quickly life can change.
