Why is an E-mail Not Called an E-letter?
Why do we say, “I sent you an e-mail”? Why not “I sent you an e-letter?”
With traditional mail, the word “mail” refers collectively to all of it. You might say, “I am going to collect my mail,” or “I didn’t receive any mail today”. But if you sent a single item of written mail, you would call it a letter, parcel or package.
