Why Literature Can Be A Therapist
The idea of therapy is to be guided through yourself. A therapist holds your hand while you wander in to the forest of you. She points things out that you may not see. She helps you see them in a different light. In time you grow and transform in to a version of you that feels right.
Through literature you can vicariously live lives of others. When you identify with a character you see them in you. Through this you discover something about yourself.
The more characters you identify with, the more aspects of yourself you bring to light.
When you finish reading a book, ask yourself: what have I discovered about myself?
When you read and reflect, you grow.
