Writers everywhere have complained at least once about how hard writing is. We’ve all heard of the famous “writer’s block”.

There is plenty of advice that teaches us how to make writing easier. So why is it still so difficult to this day?

I believe David McCullough, a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, has demystified it in an interview where he talks candidly about writing and history.

“Writing is thinking. To write well is to think clearly. That’s why it’s so hard.” ― David McCullough

We think in words and images. Naturally, if we want to put the words on paper, there must first be structure in our minds.

Next time you have writer’s block, step away and kindly take a look at your thought process.

Are your thoughts organized? How can you create some peace and clarity?

Hopefully then writing will flow.
