How to find your mental health provider match
George says he’s an assistant manager, but George is, in fact, my therapist. He certainly wouldn’t be a good fit for everyone, but he’s perfect for me.
Good mental health is one of the ultimate achievements in life, and everyone needs help sometimes. But finding the right provider can seem like a monumental task, especially if you’re in a bad headspace.
My Advice
Figure out your parameters: location? in person or virtual? insurance? What sort of therapy do you want? For me, talk therapy didn’t work. Somatic therapy was key.
Then, consult the Psychology Today listing. It lists most every therapist (worldwide!). Try to find five that might work, and email them all. Their answers or lack thereof will help you decide which to choose.
