Who will be NYCFC’s first head coach?
Since September, speculation about who will be NYCFC’s first head coach has been a popular topic on blogs, Twitter and the like. One name that keeps cropping up is Jason Kreis, currently in his seventh year as boss for Real Salt Lake.
Kreis, whose contract with RSL is up after this year, has not announced any decision yet about his future. That’s understandable as RSL is currently in the middle of the MLS playoffs against the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Brian Strauss at SI.com was one of the first to report on this rumor, even claiming that NYCFC extended an offer to Kreis back in mid-September after he flew to England to speak to NYCFC and Manchester City leadership .
Argentinian Guillermo Barros Schelotto , a former Columbus Crew player and league MVP who currently coaches the club Lanus in his native country, has also been rumored for the NYCFC coaching spot. Time will tell, though no doubt the rumors will continue unabated in the meantime.
