Netflix and RFDTV present: House of Chards

The bitterest truth.

Coming this harvest, a joint venture between Netflix and RFDTV, House of Chards. This farm-to-trouble drama details the political and agricultural machinations “behind the leaves” of a $20 million Swiss chard farm in Mendocino County, California. Synopses of the first season’s episodes:

1. Fallow Soil

When old McDonald buys the farm figuratively, Joe Underwood buys it literally. There’s more to farming chard than meets the eye.

2. The Sower and the Seed Money

Cher’s feeling bullish about the purchase of a new steer, but Joe’s distracted. He needs to squash the beef with his feed supplier before it’s too late. Douglass the farm hand is hatching a plot—and a plot of land.

3. ‘Round Back

Autumn’s been snooping where she ain’t oughta be; meanwhile, a new agriculture bill threatens the existence of Underwood Estates. Also: there’s a goose in this one.

4. In the Weeds

Joe is beyond bitter when a dino kale farmer moves to town. Autumn follows the money and steps in dung. Douglass makes hay while the sun shines and somebody pays the price.

5. Hoe, Down

Trouble’s a-brewing for Joe; who will take the fall? A picking session gone awry leads to more questions than answers, and Douglass is growing secretive about his sugar beets.

6. The Farmer in the Hell

Joe attends the annual organic farmers’ conference and is horrified by what he learns: Chard is out; cauliflower is in. Left alone at Underwood Estates, Cher rediscovers her passion for grapes.

7. Chards of Glass

Cracks in Joe’s chard empire deepen as Douglass fumbles a wholesale deal with a bespoke vegetable juice concern. Meanwhile, Cher moves on to a different kind of chard: chardonnay.

8. Turning Over a New Leafy Green

Ousted from Underwood Estates, Joe leaves Mendocino — disillusioned — for greener pastures in San Francisco. Is a bone broth truck on the horizon?
