Etsy has 6.8 million sellers. Only 26% can make it to a full-time income.

Why?

It’s an easy platform to start BUT it’s not (that) easy to make money.

I started selling handmade items on Etsy in 2020. It wasn’t all smooth sailing — from hitting 100 sales in six weeks to experiencing months of zero earnings.

Yet, I persisted.

Why? It wasn’t Etsy’s fault; it was mine.

I hadn’t put in the necessary work.

So earlier this year I opened another Etsy store selling digital products.

This time I told myself to take it seriously and see how it goes.

I just crossed 500 sales.

Now with newfound wisdom, here’s what I’d do if I were starting a new store today.

1. It’s who you sell to, not what you sell

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I am vocal about how important it is to have a niche when selling on Etsy.

But niche — it’s not about the product.
