Lessons I’ve Learned Selling Clipart on Etsy

Reflections after 5 months and 500 sales

Just about 5 months ago, I started an Etsy shop selling clipart, printable bookmarks, and digital papers. I did so partly as an experiment for myself — I wanted to learn something new, something that I felt was only going to grow in usefulness over the next few years, and I wanted to see if I could build a product-based business out of it.

I was surprised by the results. I had started an Etsy shop before but went months before seeing even my first sale. This second Etsy shop, on the other hand, saw its first organic sale less than a week after I listed my first product.

I just made my 500th sale today, and to commemorate, I’m recording some of the key lessons I’ve learned along the way.

Lesson 1: Just Keep At It

You can’t sell what you don’t create. And you also can’t sell what you don’t take the time to actually package up and put those final touches on.

With this Etsy shop, I set a goal for myself to work on creating products every single day. I typically shoot for adding one new product each day.
