These six images are selected from more than 1,500 comprising the series of photographs titled #Moelwyns — my attempt to document the ever-changing moods of the Mynyddoedd Moelwynion mountain range and the transient atmospheric conditions that only people who are lucky enough to live here, in Eryri (Snowdonia), really get to know.

I approached the #Moelwyns project more as a ‘documentary’ than as ‘landscape photography’ — the original concept was to make all the images from the same viewpoint (marked by a sacred tree) and build-up a sort of ‘time-lapse’, though I have treated this as a loose directive rather than a rigid rule. Over the years they have amassed a wealth of visual data relating to the natural environment, meteorological conditions, and climate change.

March 2024 marked the completion of this 10-year project which began as an extension to an artist’s book published to coincide with my exhibition Cof Brosesu — Processed Memory, which was the Winter 2013–2014 exhibition at the Oriel Maenofferen Gallery in the heart of Eryri. The online continuation was originally intended to disperse via twitter, though it’s decade duration outlasted the platform.

So, a view of a place, distributed around the world, through tiny digital windows — creating a dialogue between here and elsewhere — wherever there might be — with the intention of capturing the transient moods that can change by the moment. Like a gust of wind lifting snow from the slopes…
