The Merriam Webster Online Dictionary defines mind as “the element or complex of elements in an individual that feels, perceives, thinks, wills, and especially reasons,” and defines the term ‘mind over matter’ as “a situation in which someone is able to control a physical condition, problem, etc., by using the mind.”
What better definition is there of art?
Cacen Ffenest is the personification of a concept, a project helmed by a professional photographer and digital image maker working with low-resolution imagery and digital paint techniques more often associated with illustration and graphic design.
Working in low-resolution achieves soft edges, blurry and pixelated works that are imprecise and not easily resolved in definite visual terms. Or, to translate a Leonardo da Vinci quote, “Through confused and vague things the spirit wakes to new inventions.” There is a clear influence from abstract expressionism and a belief that colours can ignite emotional responses while indistinct forms will capture and confound the rational intellect as it attempts to grasp something amorphous and indistinct.
