Mira Lehr
Mira Lehr (1934–2023) is notable for being an influential player in the eco-feminist art movement through the latter half of the twentieth-century and for shaking up the male-dominated art scene when, in 1960, she founded one of the first cooperatives for women artists in the USA, centred around her Continuum Gallery in Miami.
For more than six decades she challenged definitions of what it was to be both artist and activist. By the 1980s, Mira Lehr was internationally important and entered the 2000s with increasingly ambitious combinations of performance, sculpture, site-specific installation, lightworks, and moving image. Her creative continuum was never exhausted, producing new art until her death in January of this year, aged 88.
