In a speech before the National Rifle Association on April 14th, former President Donald Trump expressed his vision for a mass deportation system during his second presidency.

Forty minutes into the 52-minute speech, Donald Trump stated (1):

Following the Eisenhower model, Dwight Eisenhower was tough on the subject; we could use all necessary state, local, and military resources to carry out the most extensive domestic deportation system in American history.

The comment was met with instant applause.

The so-called “Eisenhower model” Donald Trump refers to is the controversial — and controversially named — Operation Wetback of the 1950s.

According to History.com, Operation Wetback was a series of police raids conducted in 1954 to deport thousands of undocumented immigrants to Mexico.
