Today was the last day of our ASB! We wrapped up by implementing our design project at Third Street Community Center and then celebrating with brunch.

Our class came up with two design projects to re-engage kids at Third Street in the San Jose Tech Challenge and help them reflect upon their learning. The first group created a resume builder for the 7–8th grade teams so they could compile all their work and skills into one place. During an hour-long workshop, they taught the kids what a resume is and how to use the resume builder. This tool allows them to reflect on what they’ve learned over the past 10 weeks. They can also download the resumes to save or share with future organizations. We were glad to see the kids start to understand the purpose of a resume, and we hope they keep using this tool in the future!

The second group wanted to create a video of the teams’ work so the teams can look back on all they accomplished after the challenge ended and so that parents could see their kids’ work at the closing ceremony. They recorded footage of the kids working on their projects and interviewed a couple members of each group to ask about what they’ve learned, what they enjoyed, challenges, etc. We hope to have this video completed soon so Third Street has a reminder of everything they’ve done this year!

After we left Third Street, our trip was nearly complete! We celebrated with a delicious brunch at Stacks. Afterwards, we came back to campus, cleaned up, and went our separate ways. The trip went by incredibly quickly. We really enjoyed visiting such a large variety of schools, nonprofits, and for-profit companies working in the intersection of education, technology, and equity. We learned a ton about these different areas and various approaches to solving these difficult problems. Overall, the trip was incredibly educational and a lot of fun! We’ll miss each other, but we’re definitely grateful for this chance to explore ed tech in Silicon Valley.

THAT’S ED TECH RIGHT THERE.
