In America “at any given time 5% of the world’s population aged between 5 and 50 suffer from the fear of speaking in open to other”. Just in America 5.3 million have a social phobia and 3.2 million have a fear of crowded public spaces. As long as people follow the speech preparation pyramid these large numbers should decrease.

So what is the speech preparation pyramid? This is a pyramid with 6 different levels to help someone get prepared for any type of speech whether it is large or small.

On the bottom of the base is know the purpose of your speech. Meaning know why you are doing the speech is it to inform peers, a meeting a work, is it important information that needs to be remembered, etc.

Next level is to know your topic and research about it. This shows that you need to know what you are talking about in my previous blog I talked about how I did not know my topic leaving me to clam up before the speech.

In the middle of the graph is to give example or stories from your own experiences. This is easy for most people because everyone enjoys talking about themselves leaving anxiety and phobias to go down.

Write the outline of your speech or talk. This will help a person stay on task during the speech so they do not go off topic and start rambling or miss the time period given.

Then you must master your speech and on the top you must deliver. The best way to do these two in my own opinion is to practice and keep practicing. If you know your presentation from every angle then presenting it to the public will be easier than you think. The best way to practice is in front of mirror or someone you trust and feel comfortable around.

As long as people follow the speech preparation pyramid the numbers for anxiety and phobias should go down in the world and in the United States.
