A sickening amount of buyer’s remorse settled in Tanesha Robinson when she surveyed the sagging door frame, paint peeling around the windows and the shingles falling off the roof. The towering pine trees and blue sky above Sky Pines must have seduced her, taking her away from reality for a dangerous moment.

Early morning. What could she possibly accomplish by lunchtime?

She closed the door to her SUV, walked anxiously across the parking lot and opened the screen door. The handle jiggled loose.

What did I do?

Moving away from the urban crush of Los Angeles’ Playa Vista neighborhood where she had worked as a graphic artist seemed like the perfect antidote to stress. Life near the crowded ocean gave way to life in a mountain community.

Buying a rundown tavern had appealed to her romanticism more than her entrepreneurial smarts.

Residents she met during a long weekend visit had complained that upgrading the bar would give the town a new look and attract more than shaggy groups of leather-clad bikers.
