When you’re working on your startup’s landing page copy, you have to remember one thing…

You’re an alien. You speak a different language.

Or at least, that’s what we like to think when we’re testing at FunnelFeed.

Who’s Your Customer?

The average person doesn’t understand your product. The average potential user understands the product, but doesn’t understand how it works. Unlike you, they aren’t thinking about the product and the industry all day.

You need to speak their language.

You need to figure out what makes them tick; how and why should they be interested in this product? Why should they care to read more, and not just close the tab?

In addition to this, you need to be precise, organized, and clear. If your landing page is a wall of text, nobody will read it, “ain’t nobody got time for that”.

Stop using overly complicated words and use simple ones. Better yet, try a landing page video, it mightincrease your conversion by 80%. Not sure what to start with? We didn’t either, so we looked at Wistia’s landing page video.

Landing Page Template

Here’s a simple landing page template as a starting point:

  1. Headline
  2. Call To Action
  3. Relevant video
  4. Description
  5. Testimonial
  6. Pricing
  7. Call To Action

Is this the master landing page template that will get you millions of customers? Maybe. Put yourself in the shoes of the customers; what would you want to see?

The Mom Test

Our landing page template isn’t unique, but we do take a unique approach to testing the landing page copy.

We call it, “The Mom Test.”

Before A/B testing our landing page copy with the world, we first test it with our moms. If they understand what we’re trying to convey, then great! Otherwise, we reword it and simplify it.

Moms are a great source for feedback. They enjoy talking to you and can either be super positive because they’re supportive (great confidence boost), or super honest because they want you to “get a real job” (which improves the copy, as long as it’s constructive).

Regardless, you need to get your copy out as fast as possible. Build, test, learn. The faster you build, the faster you can test, and the faster you learn what to improve.

It’s Simple…

Be simple!

We love our users, and want them to have 100% control over their FunnelFeed campaigns. The best way to give users comfort is to be straightforward and simple with your copy.

If you send your copy to your moms, they might send you a care package.
