It’s not easier
by Yann Girard
It’s a lot easier to start your own company today.
It’s a lot easier to start your own website today.
It’s a lot easier to reach an audience of a few million people today.
Technology enabled us to start everything we’ve ever dreamed of for a fraction of the cost of just a few years ago.
And the costs will decrease even more so in the next few years.
So yes, it’s gotten a lot easier to start things.
But what’s gotten so much harder is to get traction. To build an audience. To get listeners. To get readers. To acquire leads. Or to get paying customers. Especially, when you’re starting from scratch.
Because today the competition for everything is so much bigger.
The competition for attention got much more fierce. The competition for clicks is insane. And the competition for (proper) ad space let’s ad prices skyrocket.
So yes, it’s gotten a lot easier to start things. But it’s gotten so much harder to get anything to the next level. To get things rolling.
And that’s probably one of the biggest illusions out there that many people tend to believe in.
Just because it’s so much easier to start things today doesn’t mean that it’s also a lot easier to succeed..
