You shouldn’t be frustrated about your social media reach (and here’s why)

by Yann Girard

So the other day I came across a tool which allows you to compare social media stats from people’s social media profiles. And it’s quite easy to summarize:

Conversion and engagement is shit for everyone on social media, no matter how good or well known people are. At the end of the day social media is all just a number’s game. Especially on crowded platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

So here are a few profiles I checked out with this tool..

Gary Vaynerchuk:

Facebook — Engagement: 1,1% (Reactions/Number of Fans), Interaction: 0,22% (Reactions per fan per post)

Twitter — Engagement: 0,12% (Reactions/Number of followers), Interaction: 0,0027% (Reactions/Tweets/Followers)

James Altucher:

Facebook — Engagement: 0,042%, Interaction: 0,033%
Twitter — Engagement: 0,11%, Interaction: 0,016%

Tim Ferriss:

Facebook — Engagement: 0,46%, Interaction: 0,11%

Twitter — Engagement: 0,037%, Interaction: 0,0052%

Yann Girard:

Facebook — Engagement: 0,89%, Interaction: 0,76%
Twitter — Engagement: 0,028%, Interaction: 0,0039%

I think these stats put things into perspective. And the only real thing we (or I) can learn from these numbers is that engagement/interaction is pretty low for everyone.

So you’re probably not doing anything wrong. It’s just that you need a massive audience to make those numbers work for you. And to me that’s very encouraging.

I hope it encourages you to keep on pushing as long and as hard as you can and to not give up just because you can’t seem to get traction..

P.S. Reactions include likes, comments and shares/tweets. I’m not sure how accurate these numbers are. They weren’t calculated by me. They were calculated by a third party tool..
