At the restaurant

“Did you read the school admission forms I emailed you?” asked Emma while adjusting her dress.

“Mail! Which one? When? How did I miss them? How did I forget it?“ ”pondered Steve giving himself a kick in his tangled mind.

“You forgot, didn’t you? Do you even read my emails and messages anymore?”

“Can we talk about this later?”

“You always say this when we have to talk about something important?”

“Why can’t we relax a bit and finish our dinner tonight?”

“Relax!” she scoffed again and continued, “How can you forget it? How can you be so careless about our son’s admission? Do you know how many schools and forms I have reviewed so far!”

“Come on, we have one more week before the deadline. Right?” Steve repented as soon as he said it.

Emma was reddening with anger. Steve was drawing out his imaginary weapons to defend himself with. They were now oblivious of the surroundings and shot words that opened up festering wounds in their relationship.
