An Inside Look: Building Relationships Through Gaming
Max Childers is the president of the University of Tampa Gamers Guild (UTGG), a club that meets weekly to play board and tabletop games. From a small town of 5,000 people, he knew everyone in his high school class since he was young. He came to college with one of his best friends but was afraid he would not make new friends. After mentioning his interest in Dungeons & Dragons during a different club meeting, he decided to join UTGG in his freshman year and ran for secretary. Years later, his responsibilities as president is to rent the room on time and communicate with the members. Max does not find it difficult to balance running the club along with his job and schoolwork since UTGG has a balanced team. Most of the club runs itself, making it a low-maintenance club. Max completely trusts his team to help when things get hectic. The club is planning a big end-of-the-year party, which will require extra planning to request funding. UTGG has allowed Max to connect with people who share similar interests, make many new friends, gain confidence, and improve his communication and time management skills.
